The Amida Trust was founded in order to support socially engaged activities and since its foundation we have been involved in many different projects, from one off events, like a peace walk, or demonstration against the arms trade to longer term engaged work like chaplaincy in the UK and other projects overseas. Read a discussion in which Dharmavidya poses the question "What is Buddhist about Engaged Buddhism?" Amida India In September 2004 Amida Trust launched its new Buddhist voluntary service overseas scheme. Following the first pilot year, we have recruited a small team of volunteers for the 2005 training intake. This year we have an established project in Delhi which works with Ambedkarite Buddhists, who are from the dalit community, as well as other local groups. This project provides community support and English language classes for around 100 students as well as bringing regular Buddhist practice to these groups. Our next intake of volunteers will be in September 2010. Volunteers under the scheme receive six weeks training prior to taking up a five month placement. If you are interested in joining the new volunteering placement please contact us in May 2010. Shorter term volunteering may be possible before this date, so do contact us to enquire if you are interested in discussing other possibilities. In December 2007 we admitted the first Indian Amida-shu members, of whom there are now 10 in total. Sahishnu is
